Heartbreaking: 13-Year-Old Mumbai Student Ends Life After Teacher's Scolding, Tells Father His Death Will Reduce Expenses
A tragic incident in Kalyan has led to the death of a 13-year-old boy, who reportedly took his own life after facing alleged harassment from a school teacher and a classmate. The boy’s distraught father discovered him hanging at their home on Sunday evening, returning from work. Upon reading the poignant suicide note left by his son, the father was heartbroken to learn that the boy had felt immense pressure from recent events.
In the note, the boy expressed his distress, citing being scolded by a teacher and teased by a peer as major contributors to his decision. He also mentioned his father’s future financial relief in light of his absence, and asked his father not to blame his elder sister. The Kolshewadi police have classified the case as an accidental death and are continuing their investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the suicide.
Following the incident, the school involved has dismissed the teacher named in the suicide note. The boy was a student in the eighth grade at a prominent English-medium school in Katemanivali, Kalyan East. Besides his parents, he is survived by an elder sister.
According to police sources, the father, who is employed at a private firm, found his son deceased upon his return home. Neighbors who heard his cries called the authorities, who transported the boy to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The suicide note, discovered by the boy’s elder sister and written in Hindi with English letters, was taken into evidence by the police.
Senior Inspector Ashok Kadam from the Kolshewadi police station stated that an accidental death report has been filed. The police are collecting statements from family, friends, and others to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy and will determine appropriate actions based on their findings.
In response to the incident, Kanchan Kulkarni, president of the Kalyan Congress women’s wing, has urged the police to pursue a thorough investigation into the teacher’s role and any similar cases of harassment. Kulkarni’s concerns were heightened by a recent similar suicide of a 17-year-old in Kalyan due to alleged mistreatment by a school principal, calling into question the environment in local schools and the treatment of students.
