Hemkund Sahib Yatra 2024: Key dates announced for sacred pilgrimage

The revered pilgrimage to Hemkund Sahib for the year 2024 is scheduled to commence on May 25 and conclude on Oct 10. 

According to an announcement made during a meeting between Narinder Jit Singh Bindra, Chairman of Gurdwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust and Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi. Pilgrims are advised to plan meticulously, considering the challenging weather conditions and the physical demands of the trek.

Spiritual and Physical Significance:

The Hemkund Sahib Yatra is not merely a physical journey; it is a spiritual odyssey that attracts devotees from various corners of the country. The pilgrimage involves a trek of approximately 15 km from Govind Ghat to Hemkund Sahib, situated at an altitude of 15,000 ft. Devotees often make a halt at Gangharia during the journey due to the challenging weather conditions.

Snow-Covered Route Preparation:

Approximately one month before the pilgrimage begins, army personnel will undertake the task of clearing the snow-covered route, ensuring a safe passage for devotees. The region is currently enveloped in snow, with depths ranging from 5 to 8 ft. This preparation ensures that the sacred journey can proceed smoothly and safely.

Encouragement for Devotees:

Chairman Bindra emphasized the spiritual significance of the pilgrimage, encouraging interested individuals to make necessary arrangements for their journey during the specified period. The confirmation of dates enables devotees to plan their visits and undertake the sacred journey with due preparation and devotion.

Travel Details:

Aspiring pilgrims can reach the nearest airport, Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, which is approximately 320 km away from the location. From the airport, transportation options such as taxis are available to reach Govind Ghat, the starting point of the trek.

For those arriving by train, the nearest railway station is Rishikesh Railway Station, approximately 273 km from Govind Ghat. From Rishikesh, taxis or buses can be utilized to reach 

Govind Ghat:

Govind Ghat is well-connected by road, and buses or taxis can be availed from major cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun to reach the starting point of the trek.
