Pune: The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday that stop clocks will be implemented during the overs in men’s ODI and T20I cricket matches.

The implementation of stop clocks will undergo a trial period commencing in December 2023 and concluding in April 2024, aimed at regulating the duration of overs.

The ICC release stated that if the bowling team fails to be prepared for the next over within 60 seconds of the completion of the previous over, they will face a 5-run penalty when this occurs for the third time in an innings. The regulations for monitoring the pitch and outfield have been modified and approved by the board.

The release stated that the criteria for assessing a pitch and the threshold for removing a venue’s international status will be simplified. Additionally, the threshold for removing the international status will be increased from five demerit points to six demerit points over a period of five years.

From January 2024 onwards, the committee has taken a significant step towards promoting gender equality in cricket by equalizing the match day pay for ICC umpires in both men’s and women’s cricket. This decision aims to expedite the progress of female match officials within the sport. Additionally, it has been mandated that every ICC Women’s Championship series will include the presence of a neutral umpire.
