Illegal Dumping Continues in Hinjewadi Riverbed Despite PMC’s Action 

Pune : Despite ongoing efforts by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to curb the illegal dumping of construction debris in the Mula-Mutha river stretch near Hinjewadi, a recent social media post by NCP leader and MP Supriya Sule highlights the persistence of the issue. The construction boom in Pune has led to widespread dumping of construction waste in various locations, including the riverbed, in violation of recycling norms. The latest incident in Hinjewadi has drawn attention once again to the environmental impact of such illegal activities.

Supriya Sule, in her social media post, expressed concern about the unlawful dumping of debris in the Mula-Mutha River, particularly in the Blue Ridge Township area in Hinjewadi. She emphasized the significant harm caused to the riverbed and the surrounding environment.

The Nationalist Congress Party leader urged the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the district collector to address the issue promptly and take corrective action against those responsible for the illegal dumping.

The problem of illegal debris dumping is not confined to Hinjewadi alone; it is a citywide issue, particularly near the wetlands, causing environmental damage and posing health risks. Air pollution from the dust generated during the transportation and unloading of debris is a major concern, affecting both the environment and public health.

Local citizens in Hinjewadi reported the illegal dumping to authorities and local representatives. MP Sule’s intervention has brought attention to the matter, and citizens are hopeful that the MPCB and the district collector will take appropriate action against the culprits.

An official from the Solid Waste Department at PMC stated that regular patrolling is conducted to identify and penalize those involved in illegal debris dumping. Fines will be imposed on individuals found engaging in such activities.
