India’s Largest Aviation Gallery And Heliport To Be Set Up In Pune Soon, Confirms Union Minister
Pune – In a significant development for aviation enthusiasts and the city of Pune, India’s first and largest aviation gallery will soon be established in the city. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, confirmed the news during a recent media interaction. The gallery is expected to position Pune as a key hub in India’s civil aviation landscape.
The upcoming aviation gallery aims to spread awareness among citizens about the aviation industry, airport operations, the Indian Air Force, and international aviation services. It will feature aircraft models, flight science exhibits, airport design layouts, and comprehensive displays on both national and global air transport systems.
Gallery to Promote Public Engagement with Aviation
The project is designed to provide insights into the various facets of the aviation world, helping visitors understand the functioning of airports, the science of flight, and the contributions of the Indian Air Force.
To support this initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sanctioned a budget of ₹4 crore. The project has entered its final phase of development. Once operational, the gallery is expected to become a landmark destination for aviation awareness and significantly enhance Pune’s role in the aviation sector.
Plans Underway for a Dedicated Heliport
Minister Mohol also revealed that due to the high number of helicopters operating in Pune, the government is actively considering setting up a dedicated heliport. Location scouting for the heliport is currently underway.
In addition, the runway expansion of Pune Airport is progressing, with the Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey now complete and land acquisition efforts currently in motion. These developments are expected to boost international connectivity from Pune, the minister added.
With these ongoing infrastructure upgrades, Pune is set to witness significant growth in its aviation ecosystem, enhancing both public engagement and international travel facilities.
