Intense Competition Heats Up At Ashok Ruia Memorial Winter National Bridge Tournament
Pune, December 10, 2024 – The prestigious Ashok Ruia Memorial Winter National Bridge Tournament, organized by the Pune Region Bridge Association, is currently underway. The event, sanctioned by the Bridge Federation of India (BFI) and the Maharashtra Bridge Association (MBA), has drawn top bridge players from across the country.
The tournament has already witnessed intense competition among the participating pairs. As of today, Asha Sharma and Pooja Batra, as well as Vasanti Shah and Gopika Tandon, have emerged as strong contenders for the top spot, having secured the first two positions after the initial 22 rounds of the qualifying phase.
Other notable pairs who have qualified for the final round include Shital Bansal and Sarika Mittal, Alka Kshirsagar and Bharti Dey, and Ekta Chadha and Bina Malhotra.
The tournament is being held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, Pune. The women’s pairs event will consist of 10 rounds of 5 deals each, totaling 50 deals. The top 18 pairs will advance to the all-play-all round-robin stage, where the pair with the highest score will be crowned the national champions.
The tournament will also feature mixed pairs, senior team events, and the highly anticipated match-point pairs event.Inauguration Ceremony
The tournament was inaugurated by Amla Ruia, who also participated in the event. Other dignitaries present at the inauguration included Alka Kshirsagar, Shirish Karkarey, Anand Samant (Senior Vice President, BFI), J.K. Bhosle (Emeritus President, MBA), and Anil Padhye.
