Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has launched special health and wellness zones at selected tourist accommodations to prioritize women’s well-being.

These zones offer activities like yoga, Zumba, dance, and aerobics, along with an open-air gym, catering specifically to women. To celebrate International Women’s Day, MTDC is offering a 50% discount on accommodation reservations for women and their families from March 1-8.

According to Deepak Harne, MTDC regional manager, the bookings for this week are already full, with an impressive 85% occupancy recorded at the tourist accommodations during this period. The project has been initiated at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Nagpur and Kharghar. Women are also provided with team-building activities and children’s entertainment at the open-air gym.

Experts have been selected to train women in self-defence, and leadership and personality development modules are also part of the program. Women taking advantage of the Women’s Day special offers must present their identity cards upon arrival. MTDC, managing 29 tourist resorts, has identified additional operators to coordinate accommodation and food at various locations in Maharashtra, ranging from religious sites and historic forts to dense forests, hill stations, and beaches.

Aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Invest in Women – Accelerate Progress,’ MTDC showcases three tourist accommodations exclusively managed by women.

The Maharashtra government’s circular on June 19, 2023, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and leadership among women in tourism, has resulted in the operation of three centers in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Nagpur, and Kharghar, solely staffed by women. From cooks to security guards and managers, 60-70 women are running these tourist centers, as highlighted by Harne.
