Pimple Saudagar, October 8, 2024: A free BCG vaccination camp against tuberculosis (TB) was organized on Monday, October 7, 2024, at Govind Garden Parking, Pimple Saudagar. This initiative was a joint effort by the Shatrughna (Bapu) Kate Youth Foundation and the Public Health Department. The primary goal of the camp was to protect senior citizens by providing them with the BCG vaccine, which is used mainly for TB prevention.

The Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine is widely administered to combat tuberculosis. This vaccination drive was targeted at individuals who had a TB infection more than five years ago, diabetic patients, malnourished adults, people exposed to TB patients, smokers, and those with a low Body Mass Index (BMI).

This campaign aligns with the National Tuberculosis Eradication Program, aiming to eliminate TB across India by 2025, a pledge made by the central government. In line with this commitment, the municipal authorities have launched a BCG vaccination initiative for adults over 18 years of age within the city limits.

During the event, Shatrughna Kate appealed to the public, urging everyone to participate in this mission. “To achieve a TB-free India, it is crucial for each citizen to take a step forward and get vaccinated with the BCG vaccine. By joining this campaign, we can collectively eradicate tuberculosis once and for all,” he said.
