Pune News: Thieves Strike Peshwa-Era Omkareshwar Temple, Steal Rs.6,000 From Donation Box
In a brazen midnight heist, thieves broke into the historic Omkareshwar temple in Shaniwar Peth and made off with ₹6,000 from the donation box. The incident came to light on Sunday morning, prompting a police investigation.
Kaustubh Ulhas Gade, a 40-year-old temple resident, filed a complaint at Vishram Bagh Police Station. According to Gade, the thief entered the temple premises at midnight on Saturday, broke the donation box lock, and escaped with the cash.
Police Inspector Arun Ghodke of the Crime Branch visited the site and seized CCTV footage for investigation. Police Sub-Inspector Patil is probing the case. The police are reviewing the footage to identify the thief and track their movements.
This incident is the latest in a series of temple thefts in Pune.
To prevent future incidents, police have advised city temples to install CCTV cameras. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. Temple authorities and locals are shocked by the incident, highlighting concerns about security and the need for increased vigilance.
