26-year-old actress was staying alone in Kengeri; family says no suspicion of foul play

Kannada television actress Nandini CM was found dead at a paying guest accommodation in Bengaluru’s Kengeri area, sending shockwaves through the regional entertainment industry. She was 26. Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report and said a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death.

According to police officials, Nandini was found hanging inside her PG room on the second floor of the building where she had been staying since August 2025. The incident is believed to have occurred between late night hours of December 28 and the early hours of December 29. Authorities were alerted to the matter the following morning.

Kengeri Police have filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR No. 76/2025) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) Act, 2023. Emergency services were informed immediately after the body was discovered, and police teams reached the spot to conduct preliminary checks. Officials confirmed that the room was locked from the inside.

Police said Nandini had returned to the PG late on December 28 after visiting a friend and had not responded to subsequent phone calls. Concerned acquaintances alerted the PG management, following which the door was forced open and she was found hanging using a cloth tied to the window grille.

Nandini hailed from Ballari and had completed her PUC in 2018 before enrolling in an engineering programme at an institute in Hesaraghatta. However, she reportedly discontinued regular studies after developing a strong interest in acting. She later underwent acting training in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and began pursuing opportunities in television.

She had been living in various PG accommodations in Bengaluru since 2019 and had acted in multiple Kannada television serials, gradually making a name for herself. Colleagues and viewers remembered her as a young actor with aspirations and visible dedication to her craft.

Police sources said that after her father’s death in 2023, Nandini was reportedly offered a government job on compassionate grounds, which she declined, choosing instead to continue her acting career. This decision is believed to have caused differences within the family, though no formal complaint or allegation has been made.

The family, in their statement to the police, said they do not suspect any foul play or hold anyone responsible for her death. Investigators have also recovered personal writings in which Nandini reportedly expressed her desire to continue acting and her emotional struggles related to career choices and family expectations.

Police have stated that further inquiry is ongoing, and statements from friends, PG staff, and close contacts are being recorded to complete procedural formalities.

The tragic death has reignited conversations around mental health pressures faced by young artists navigating uncertain careers in the entertainment industry.
