Popular talk show host Karan Johar has often found himself being the target of criticism and brutal trolling on social media. He has been vocal about his experiences and resilient in the face of mockery uncalled for.
Recently, however, he took to Instagram stories to express his displeasure with a comic’s impression of him which he considered distasteful. He spoke about how the impression made him reflect on the current situation of the film industry where someone who has been in the game for more than 25 years can be portrayed with such disrespect. He also mentioned how such behaviour coming from anonymous trolls is quite anticipated but seeing this distasteful portrayal come up on an apparently respectable channel made him sad and not angry.
The Instagram story read: “I was sitting and watching television with my mom… and saw a promo of a reality comedy show on a supposedly respectable channel… a comic was mimicking me in exceptionally poor taste… I expect this from trolls and faceless and nameless people but when your own industry can disrespect someone who has been in the business for over 25 years it speaks volumes about the times we live in… this doesn’t even anger me it just makes me sad!”
Even though the director did not name anyone, there are a lot of conjectures floating around that suggest that he was discreetly referring to Kettan Singh who features in the comedy show “Madness Machayenge — India ko Hasayenge” on Sony TV.
Countless social media users deciphered Karan’s mysterious message on Reddit, X and Instagram. Many assumed he was referring to Kettan Singh. The conclusion was predicated on a recent TV and Instagram promo that the station posted. Kettan made fun of Karan and his chat show Koffee With Karan in the teaser by dressing like him.
He sketched out a parody of the show ‘Koffee with Karan’ and replaced the name with ‘Toffee with Churan’. Among other aspects, Kettan hit out at Karan for launching star kids and his manner of dancing.
