Know your Prabhag 12

Aundh which used to be known as Prabhag 8 will now be known as Prabhag 12. This ward will now also include Balewadi, which earlier was part of the Prabhag 8 in 2002. With the civic elections on the anvil, the draft ward delimitation plan was announced by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) where under the new three-ward panel system, the next civic body will have a total of 58 electoral panels, 17 more than the 41 panels in 2017. Three corporators each would be selected from 57 panels with Baner Sus Mhalunge will be represented by two corporators. Currently the multi-member ward has four corporators.

The final ward structure is slated to be announced on March 2,2022.
Speaking to Vaishali Patkar, president of Aundh Vikas Mandal, a citizens association of Prabag 8 and 9. “Currently we represent the area of Aundh gaon which consists of 359 societies and a slum Dr Ambedkar Vasahat which has over 56,000 residents. The geographical location of our area is between the natural boundaries of Aundh Gaothan and Ramnadi confluence and other side sindh society. By adding Balewadi to Prabhag 12 the number of residents will be more than 1,00,000 citizens and increase the ward.”

Former mayor and corporator Dattatreya Gaikwad infact said that earlier too Aundh and Balewadi with Baner were the same prabhag. Infact now we have got approximately more than 75000 voters as compared to early 62000 population of Aundh alone.

“This new prabhag has also got four slums like Kasturba Gandhi Vasahat, Indira Vasahat, Ambedkar Vasahat and Sanjay nagar near Spicer college. Since both Aundh and Balewadi are together and also part of the Smart city, it will be useful for them to bring in the Slum Redevlopment Scheme under (SRA) in its zone,” said Gaikwad.

Similarly, Balewadi which was earlier Prabhag no 9 is now part of prabhag 12. According to the Balewadi Residency Co-Op Housing Welfare Federation Ltd, presently it is a compact an continuous prabhag, whereas with the new prabhag, it is spread over 10 to 11 kms from Highway to Savitribai Phule Pune University.
