A dentist from Uttarakhand is facing backlash and potential legal consequences for her actions during Diwali.
Dr. Aanchal Dhingra, who practices at Guru Maa Advanced Dental Care in Rudrapur, shared a video where she was seen shooting a licensed pistol into the air at her farmhouse in Gadarpur. She claimed it was her unconventional way of celebrating a “pollution-free” Diwali. The video spread rapidly online, leading authorities to step in.
In the footage, Dhingra is shown leaning against a Mahindra Thar while firing five shots into the air. However, this act is illegal under Indian law, which prohibits discharging a firearm in public or for celebratory reasons.

After receiving public complaints, Rudrapur’s Station House Officer (SHO), Manoj Raturi, confirmed that Dhingra had violated legal regulations, resulting in a case being filed against her under sections 27(1) and 30 of the Arms Act, as reported by the Times of India.
Authorities are also looking into the possibility of revoking her firearms license due to this infringement. Dhingra is married to businessman Abhimanyu Dhingra, and her actions have ignited discussions on social media and beyond.
Many users on X expressed their disappointment, highlighting that while education and wisdom are often linked, they are not the same. One user pointed out that although the doctor’s education enabled her to become a physician, her lack of wisdom might lead to legal trouble.
Others questioned the legality of her actions, asking if it was considered a crime in India, and called for authorities to hold her accountable. Conversely, some argued that no one was harmed, with one commenter stating that she didn’t hurt anyone. Overall, the responses showcased a mix of concerns about firearm misuse and those who viewed the incident as relatively harmless.
