In a significant breakthrough, Kondhwa Police have apprehended four individuals involved in a string of robberies targeting Yemeni nationals seeking medical treatment in Pune. The arrests come following a meticulous investigation scanning over 600 CCTV cameras along the Pune-Daman route.

Yemeni citizens, drawn to Pune for medical purposes, often find themselves residing in the Kondhwa area. Language barriers and distinctive attire make them easy targets for criminals. Saleh Othman Ahmed, hailing from Yemen and residing in Kondhwa, fell victim to such a crime while accompanying his wife for treatment. On the evening of February 8, 2024, a fraudulent encounter with individuals posing as police officers led to the theft of significant sums of money from Saleh.

Following this incident and another similar robbery involving Abdul Fattah Saleh Mohsen, the Kondhwa Police, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Santosh Sonwane and Police Inspector Mansingh Patil, launched a thorough investigation. Utilizing CCTV footage, officers tracked the suspects’ movements along various routes, eventually leading to their location in Daman.

After an exhaustive examination of over 600 CCTV recordings spanning a 10-hour period, the accused—identified as Sikandar Ali Khan, Karim Feroze Khan, Irfan Hussain Hashmi, and Mehboob Abdul Hamdi Khan—were apprehended. The police also seized substantial evidence, including stolen currency and the vehicle used in the crimes.

The successful operation, conducted with the guidance of Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar and Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, reflects the dedication and collaborative effort of law enforcement officials involved in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike.
