Pune: Several residents of Kondhwa, travelling on the patch between Tilekar Nagar & Khadi Machine Chowk, have raised concerns over poor road conditions like potholes etc & traffic issues.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Salim Gulzar Shaikh, a resident of Kondhwa said, “I live in a society on the Tilekar Nagar-Khadi Machine road. The traffic situation on the road is not good at all. A lot of traffic is there, especially in the evening time. When my child’s school gets over, at around noon, a traffic jam takes place at the crossing. Traffic Police are working hard for this, but it is not that effective. Potholes are present in various spots between the Tilekar Nagar-Khadi Machine patch. Traffic begins at Khadi Machine Chowk right from ISKCON Temple.”

Ramchandra Namdas, another resident of Kondhwa said, “Traffic problems are there a lot. I travel 4 km daily which takes a significant amount of time. The current road conditions like potholes, levelling etc contribute to the issues. However, due to road construction work going on by the PMC, after completion, I am hopeful that the traffic & road problems will be resolved soon.”

Shamkant Borade, a resident of Kondhwa said, “As long as the road conditions aren’t improved, traffic issues will be there. However, with the PMC re-constructing the Tilekar Nagar to Khadi Machine route, the condition of that road will hopefully become good & improved with no poor conditions due to which traffic situation will also improve.”

Alamgir Jamadar, Head, Kondhwa Budruk Association said, “Several mishaps have taken place on Katraj-Kondhwa road in which many people died. The situation is so bad at Khadi Machine Chowk currently that it must be named Yamraj Chowk. Signals do not work. Since January 2023, as many as 100 accidents must have taken place on Katraj-Kondhwa road in which around 15 to 20 people must have either succumbed to their injuries or were seriously injured.”

In October 2023, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) expedited the work of the Katraj-Kondhwa Road widening as land near Tilekar Nagar has been acquired –

Sahebrao Dandge, Superintendent Engineer, PMC Road Department said, “More land parcels have been acquired for the work of Tilekar Nagar to Khadi Machine Chowk patch on which the work has already begun. One more land will be acquired soon which will easily connect the road to Khadi Machine. Speedy work is going on which will be completed soon.”
