Pune: The untimely and slow-paced work of laying the stormwater drainage pipes over the past 15 days by the Pune Municipal Corporation has caused problems for the residents of Koregaon Park’s Lane-G & South Main Road. Many people were reported to be slipping on the road due to the debris. Additionally, it has also caused traffic jams in the area.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Samir Roopani, a resident of Lane G, Koregaon Park, Pune said, “The debris because of the work of laying the stormwater pipeline work is creating a lot of hassles in the area as 2 to 3 two-wheeler vehicles have slipped due to it causing some serious injuries. An entire side of the road is blocked due to the work. No one is taking accountability for the work. Officials are just putting the responsibility of the work on others.”

Sunil Sehgal, a resident of Lane G, Koregaon Park, Pune said, “The work has caused us troubles as we daily encounter traffic jams as the entire side of the road is blocked. The work is going slow with no supervision from the PMC.”

Dhairyashil Vandekar, a resident of Koregaon Park and President of the Vithalrao Vandekar Foundation said, “ The work of laying the stormwater pipeline has been going at a snail’s pace as very few workers are engaged by the civic body for the work. Half of the lane is unusable because of the debris created due to the ongoing work which has made it extremely slippery. Also, due to rains the muddy water gets carried inside the societies making it slippery and dirty. Many two-wheelers were reported to have slipped near the lanes of South Main Road Junction. Speedy completion of the work must happen. Also, the PMC must give prior intimation to the residents whenever such type of work is undertaken.”

Sidharam Patil, Junior Engineer, PMC Koregaon Park said, “Due to heavy rains, sometimes the work is stopped. However, we assure that within 8 days, we will complete the entire stormwater pipeline work.”
