Pune : Save Pune Traffic movement (SPTM), has started ‘cycle-friendly Kothrud’ initiative to increase the use of bicycles by commuters. This comes at a time when fuel prices and pollution are reaching alarming levels.
“We wish to start with the Kothrud area where we will create awareness about bicycle usage. This is not just for health reasons but also for reducing costs for the commuters. We stress on the usage of bicycles for buying grocery, for office visits and for other errands. We started this initiative last month and will check the results in March 2023,” said Harshad Abhyankar, director, SPTM. He added that research is being conducted in the area.
“As of now, we see 20 bicycles on the street in an hour. I think bicycle usage will increase if we could have special parking arrangements in public and cultural places,” he said.
Save Pune Traffic Movement is supported by the CSR wing of Cummins India Foundation. The team aims to increase the use of bicycles through this project.
