Important news for commuters traveling on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway route, as a special two-hour road closure is scheduled for tomorrow, July 27, 2023. The continuous heavy rain in Mumbai, Konkan, and various parts of western Maharashtra has led to incidents of rockfalls and landslides in hilly areas. In light of these concerns, a special block will be implemented on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Thursday. The Mumbai will remain closed completely during this period. Traffic on Pune route will remain active.

Between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM tomorrow, a two-hour special block will be in place on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to address loose cracks. During this period, light traffic will be diverted from Magic Point to the old Pune-Mumbai highway, while heavy traffic will be rerouted from Kiwale to the old Pune-Mumbai highway. However, traffic moving towards Pune will remain unaffected.

This decision comes after a crack behind the Adoshi tunnel on the expressway collapsed on July 23, causing mudslides from the mountains of loosened soil and debris (boulders) onto the road, posing a significant safety risk. To avert any potential accidents, a special two-hour block was also imposed on July 24 to address the issue. Now, this special block will be repeated to remove the remaining loose cracks. It’s essential to complete this maintenance work for the safety of commuters.

Traffic heading towards Mumbai on the Expressway will be completely closed during the two-hour block. The last block was slightly delayed due to work not being finished on time. Considering the ongoing heavy rain in the area, there might be concerns about clearing the loosened cracks promptly. As a result, commuters traveling from Pune to Mumbai will have to utilize the old Mumbai-Pune highway during this period.

The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is a heavily frequented route, with thousands of vehicles passing through it daily. As a result, there might be an increased number of vehicles on the Pune to Mumbai route before the scheduled block, potentially leading to traffic congestion.

Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and be prepared for possible delays. Authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety and convenience of travelers on this vital route amidst the challenging weather conditions.
