LPG Home Delivery Restarts As Supply Improves; OTP Rule Mandatory For Consumers
After weeks of supply pressure and delivery delays caused by rising LPG demand and the West Asia crisis, domestic gas distribution is gradually returning to normal across several parts of India, with oil companies resuming home delivery services and tightening OTP-based verification rules.
There is some relief for domestic LPG consumers as gas companies have started restoring home delivery services after recent supply disruptions and booking delays across several states.

According to government officials and oil marketing companies, the LPG supply situation has improved over the past few days, with deliveries now exceeding the number of fresh bookings. Oil companies are reportedly clearing pending backlogs while refinery production has also been increased to stabilise domestic availability.
The shortage had emerged due to a sudden rise in demand for domestic and commercial gas during the ongoing West Asia tensions. To control panic buying and manage available stock, the government had earlier extended the minimum booking gap for LPG refills in several areas. In many places, home delivery services were temporarily disrupted or delayed.
Now, with supply conditions improving gradually, companies such as Bharat Gas have resumed home delivery operations in many areas. Officials said LPG cylinder supplies over the past few days have crossed booking numbers, indicating that the backlog is slowly reducing.
The government has also introduced stricter delivery verification measures to prevent black marketing and unauthorised diversion of cylinders. Consumers will now have to provide an OTP sent to their registered mobile number at the time of cylinder delivery. Without OTP verification, delivery will not be completed.
Officials said the new system is aimed at improving transparency in distribution and ensuring cylinders reach genuine consumers. A large percentage of LPG deliveries are now being authenticated through the Delivery Authentication Code system.
The Centre has repeatedly appealed to citizens not to panic book LPG cylinders and assured that fuel stocks remain adequate. Consumers have also been encouraged to use digital booking platforms and alternative fuel options such as PNG or induction cooktops wherever available.
In recent weeks, several cities had reported severe delivery delays and shortages, with some consumers waiting for extended periods to receive refills. Authorities now say the delivery timeline is improving steadily and the situation is gradually returning to normal, though monitoring continues amid global fuel supply uncertainty linked to the Gulf region crisis.
