Pune, May 28, 2026: In a major move aimed at enhancing the security and transparency of board examinations, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is set to introduce digital transmission of question papers and on-screen evaluation of answer sheets on a pilot basis during the June-July supplementary examinations.
Under the proposed system, question papers will no longer be physically transported through the traditional distribution network. Instead, examination centres will receive encrypted digital copies of the papers, which can be downloaded and printed shortly before the exam using password-protected access.
The board is also planning to introduce digital evaluation of answer sheets after the examinations. Answer booklets will be scanned and assessed online, with artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted tools expected to support the evaluation process and improve efficiency.
The initiative comes after the board successfully implemented a GPS-enabled digital lock system for transporting question papers in Baramati taluka during the February-March 2026 examinations. Officials consider the supplementary examinations as the next phase in the board’s technology-driven reforms.
To ensure smooth implementation of the pilot project, examination centres will be equipped with stable internet connectivity, uninterrupted power supply and backup generators.
MSBSHSE Chairman Trigun Kulkarni said the board is working towards creating a more secure, efficient and technology-driven examination system in response to emerging challenges such as paper leaks and malpractice.
He added that the pilot project would help the board assess the feasibility of implementing the digital system on a larger scale in future board examinations across Maharashtra.
