Maharashtra Cabinet Clears Artificial Intelligence Policy
Mumbai, April 30, 2026: The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, approved a series of major policy decisions on April 29, including the launch of an ambitious Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, green energy expansion, social justice initiatives, and large-scale environmental targets.
Maharashtra AI Policy 2026 Announced
The state government unveiled the ‘Maharashtra AI Policy 2026’ to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence across industries, governance, and public services. Modeled on the India AI Mission, the policy aims to attract over ₹10,000 crore in investments and generate more than 1.5 lakh jobs by 2031.

The policy proposes the creation of a ‘Maharashtra AI Mission’, development of AI infrastructure with at least 2,000 GPUs, and establishment of AI cities in five innovation zones. It also includes training for two lakh youth and professionals and the creation of a State AI Data Exchange focusing on Marathi and regional languages.
Special provisions have been made for startups and MSMEs, including a ₹500 crore AI startup venture fund and subsidies for 5,000 small businesses adopting AI solutions.
