In a significant decision, the Maharashtra government issued a notice to make Marathi Language compulsory in all schools irrespective of their medium. 

‘Marathi Act of 2020 No. 3, dated March 9 2020 to make the teaching and studying of the Marathi language compulsory in all states of Maharashtra. Following this, the Marathi language department published a notification regarding the implementation of compulsory teaching and study of the Marathi Act 2020 in schools. Accordingly, the teaching and studying of the Marathi Language have been made compulsory in all medium schools in the state. The implementation of the above act had been started in a phased manner in the year 2020-21. However, the dedication to teaching Marathi did not waver amidst the wake of COVID-19 which resulted in the temporary shutting down of schools. Additional accommodations were made for the evaluation of Marathi Language topics, especially on the batches affected due to the pandemic. 

Several key directives of this act are implemented such as making sure that the act is strictly followed by all states in Maharashtra, addressing issues wherever Marathi is not being taught, the provision of cancelling recognition of schools neglecting to add Marathi subjects.

By implementing this Act, the students of Maharashtra will stay connected to their culture and learn diverse languages.
