Public transport in Maharashtra has taken a major step toward modernization with the introduction of a RuPay-powered National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) for MSRTC bus services. The initiative, launched on April 2, 2026, is designed to make concession-based travel more seamless while moving the system toward a fully digital framework.

The rollout was officially inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, alongside Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik was also present at the event.

This newly launched system introduces Aadhaar-linked smart cards that will be issued to various groups eligible for travel concessions. These include senior citizens, students, women, persons with disabilities, and others who benefit from subsidized fares. By integrating these cards with the transport system, authorities aim to eliminate manual processes and improve overall efficiency.

According to officials from the state transport department, the digital cards will allow passengers to access concessions more conveniently while ensuring better transparency and accountability in fare management across MSRTC services.

During the launch event, several beneficiaries received their cards, including senior citizen Ramesh Dhavare, along with Sangita Palakar and Varsha Kamble, who also avail concession benefits.
