Maharashtra: Online Rent Agreement System Suspended Due To Technical Glitches; Old Platform Temporarily Reinstated
If you’re planning to create an online rent agreement, hold off for now—this update is especially relevant to you. The Registration and Stamp Department has temporarily suspended its newly launched “Rent Agreement 2.0” system due to multiple technical issues.
The upgraded system was introduced for smoother online rent agreement registration, but soon after implementation, significant errors were identified—many highlighted by the Service Provider Association. Due to frequent OTP-related difficulties and other glitches, the department has halted the system’s usage until April 21, with the possibility of an extension until May 1 as bug fixes are underway.
For now, users must revert to the older Rent Agreement 1.9 platform to carry out registrations.
Despite concerns raised by service providers, the department had gone ahead and rolled out the new system from April 1. However, after facing several problems, including having to enter OTPs up to ten times to verify landlords, tenants, and witnesses, the department decided to pause its use.
Currently, document registration through the Rent Agreement 2.0 platform is unavailable due to planned server upgrades and technical maintenance. An official notice on the department’s website confirms the system will remain down until further notice.
