Pune: Toll collection on National Highways in India has experienced significant growth in recent years, particularly after the implementation of FASTag. In the previous financial year, the total toll collection amounted to a substantial Rs 48,028.22 crore nationwide.

As per the information provided, the year 2022-23 reveals that Uttar Pradesh (Rs 5,583.43 crore) and Rajasthan (Rs 5,084.50 crore) have emerged as the top two states in terms of toll collection, despite Maharashtra having the largest national highway network.

Maharashtra ranks third, with toll collection amounting to Rs 4,660.21 crore on national highways. When combined with Gujarat (Rs 4,518.96 crore) and Tamil Nadu (Rs 3,817.48 crore), these five states account for nearly half of the total toll collected. Interestingly, these states have consistently dominated the list of top five states with the highest toll collection for the past five years.

The only variation this year is that Maharashtra secured the third position, whereas Gujarat had been performing better in previous years. The toll plaza with the highest collection across India is located in Gujarat, specifically the L&T Vadodara toll plaza, which collected Rs 455.94 crore during the 2022-23 period. Out of the top 100 toll plazas, at least 14 are situated in Gujarat, contributing to nearly 70 percent of the state’s total toll collection. In total, these 14 toll plazas in Gujarat generated Rs 3,045.96 crore in toll revenue.
