Gulmarg, Kashmir, February 26, 2026 – In a remarkable display of grit and determination, the Maharashtra contingent made their mark at the Khelo India Winter Games 2026, held at the picturesque Gulmarg, Kashmir from February 23-26, 2026.
This achievement is the result of unwavering support from Maharashtra’s Honorable Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, Union Minister of Civil Aviation & Maharashtra Olympic Association Senior Vice President Murlidhar Mohol, and Union Minister of State Sports and Youth Services Raksha Khadse. The Maharashtra team’s success is a testament to the state’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing talent.

The 14-member team excelled in four winter sports disciplines, securing a total of 6 medals and finishing 4th overall. The medal winners from Maharashtra were:

– Kaamya Karthikeyan (Gold, Ski Mountaineering – Vertical event): The young athlete, sponsored by Reliance Foundation, impressed with her remarkable performance, earning her the top spot on the podium.
– Siddhartha Gadekar (2 Silver Medals, Ski Mountaineering – Vertical and Sprint events): Gadekar’s consistent performance showcased his prowess in the sport.
– Urmila (2 Bronze Medals, Snowboarding – Slalom and Grand Slalom events): Urmila’s medals marked a significant contribution to Maharashtra’s tally.

Maharashtra’s athletes competed against top teams from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Army, CRPF, and ITBP, and their impressive performance is a testament to their hard work and dedication. Many athletes missed the podium by close margins, indicating a bright future for winter sports in the state.

The team was accompanied by Joint Secretary Dr. Pradeep Khandre of Maharashtra Olympic Association, CDM Suhas Patil, President of Ski and Snowboard Association of Maharashtra Adv. Anand Lahoti, Pradeep Rathod,Chetan Amin- Joint Secretary, Senior Advisory Shri. Dayanand Kumar, Woman’s Coach Maria Samuel and Mens Coach Cdr. Sundaram Karthikeyan, who played a crucial role in the team’s success.
