Village Panchayat workers, including Sarpanchs, Gramsevak, Panchayat employees, and computer operators, have announced an indefinite strike starting this Friday, August 16, due to unresolved demands. The decision was conveyed by Jayant Patil, the founding president of the All India Sarpanch Council.

If their demands are not met, the group plans to organize a protest at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on August 28. The protest will be joined by key figures such as Shashikant More, state vice-president; Ujjwala Gokule, Pune district president; Sandeep Dherange, district coordinator; Vinod Chavan, state president of the Gram Rozgar Sevak Association; Santosh Kudale, state organizer of the Computer Operators’ Association; and others including Sachin Jagtap, Sandeep Patil, Raju Jangam, Rais Patel, and Sharad Babar.

Approximately 2.5 lakh people are expected to participate in the movement, which will impact around 28,000 village panchayats across the state. This will halt various services, including the Ladki Didi scheme and crop insurance applications. Patil criticized the state’s negligence despite repeated follow-ups with the Chief Minister and the Minister for Rural Development, asserting that there was no alternative but to protest. He urged Rural Development Minister Girish Mahajan to step in as a problem-solver and address their issues.

The strike and subsequent protest are expected to disrupt numerous village-level services until the demands are addressed.
