Maharashtra, April 19, 2026: Maharashtra is set to witness a sudden weather shift on Monday, April 20, with the simultaneous impact of a heatwave and unseasonal rainfall. The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 19 districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and moderate rain in several regions.
Citizens have been advised to remain cautious as cloudy skies and intermittent showers are expected across large parts of the state.
Konkan Region on Alert
In the Konkan belt, Raigad district has been placed under a yellow alert. Districts including Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Authorities have also warned of strong winds in coastal areas, urging residents to take necessary precautions.
Rain Forecast for Western Maharashtra
Districts such as Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur are also under a yellow alert. Light to moderate rainfall is expected, especially in ghat regions like Kolhapur. Farmers have been advised to take preventive measures to protect standing crops.
North Maharashtra Likely to Cool Down
Dhule, Nandurbar, and Nashik districts are under alert, while Jalgaon may witness thunderstorms despite no official warning. The rainfall may bring temporary relief from the ongoing heat, with a slight drop in temperatures expected.
Marathwada to Witness Thunderstorms
Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv districts are under a yellow alert. Meanwhile, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, and Beed are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning, with isolated heavy showers in some areas. Residents have been advised to stay indoors during lightning activity.
Mixed Conditions in Vidarbha
Akola, Amravati, Chandrapur, Washim, and Yavatmal districts are under a rain alert. However, districts such as Bhandara, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, and Nagpur are expected to remain hot and dry, with heatwave conditions likely to persist.
Mumbai to Remain Hot and Dry
Mumbai is expected to experience mainly dry weather, with rising temperatures. However, most other parts of Maharashtra will continue to see cloudy conditions and scattered rainfall.
Authorities have urged citizens and farmers across the state to stay alert and take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather conditions over the next few days.
