Maharashtra Weather: IMD Issues Orange Alert For Pune
Gudi Padwa Weather Alert: Storms, Rain Likely Across Maharashtra; Orange Alert in 7 Districts, Yellow in 24
PUNE, May 25, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has downgraded the Depression over Madhya Maharashtra into a well-marked low-pressure area as of 0530 IST today. Tracking nearly eastwards, the system is expected to move slowly in the same direction over the next 24 hours, gradually weakening further.
In response to the evolving weather, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Pune district. Residents should prepare for moderate rainfall in isolated pockets over the next 3–4 hours, accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms, and lightning. Similar conditions are forecast for adjoining areas in Marathwada and North Interior Karnataka.
Authorities advise citizens to:
- Stay indoors during heavy showers and lightning.
- Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent wind damage.
- Avoid unnecessary travel on waterlogged roads.
All updates are based on real-time data from the SACHET weather monitoring app. Motorists and commuters on the Mumbai–Pune corridor should exercise caution, as water accumulation and reduced visibility could affect driving conditions.
The low-pressure area is not anticipated to regain strength; however, sporadic rain and thunderstorms may persist until May 26. The IMD will issue further advisories as the system continues its slow eastward drift.
