Mumbai: The meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains across Maharashtra for the next four to five days. Significant rainfall is expected from July 16 to 19. After a week of consistent rain in most districts of Maharashtra, there was a brief two-day respite. However, heavy rainfall is set to return for the next four days.
In the past 24 hours, Mumbai and Thane have experienced moderate rainfall. As of July 15, Maharashtra has received more than 15% of its average rainfall, with the Konkan region recording 30% and central Maharashtra 22%. Meanwhile, Marathwada and Vidarbha have experienced moderate rainfall, though Marathwada still awaits substantial rain this season. The meteorological department has issued a red alert for Ratnagiri and Raigad districts, and an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Kolhapur, Parbhani, Amravati, Wardha, and Satara.
Heavy rains over the past week have led to waterlogging in low-lying areas and flood-like conditions in several cities, causing significant inconvenience. In contrast, Marathwada’s six districts, which had been waiting for rain, finally experienced moderate showers on Sunday evening after nearly a week.
The meteorological department has also issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Kerala, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat on Tuesday. An orange alert has been issued for Uttarakhand on July 17 and 18, Rajasthan on July 18, Odisha on July 19, and Andhra Pradesh and Telangana on July 18 and 19. Additionally, heavy rainfall is expected in Uttar Pradesh and 19 other states over the next three days.
