Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD Issues High Alert for Heavy Rain in Konkan, Pune, and Marathwada Till September 6
Pune, September 4, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Maharashtra, particularly in Konkan, Pune, Marathwada, and Vidarbha regions, due to a low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal. The weather office has warned that the impact will continue for the next two to three days, with alerts already in place for multiple districts.
According to IMD, Mumbai, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are under a yellow alert, while Raigad, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Pune ghats face an orange alert for September 5. Similarly, Kolhapur and Satara ghats have been placed under a yellow alert. Heavy rain is also expected in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Ahmednagar districts of Marathwada.
On September 6, Pune ghat areas will remain under orange alert, while Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Satara, Nashik ghats, Palghar, and Nandurbar will be under a yellow alert. By September 7, the rain intensity is expected to reduce, though Nashik and Pune ghats, along with Raigad and Ratnagiri, are still likely to receive moderate to heavy showers.
The IMD has cautioned citizens in low-lying areas, hilly regions, and along the Konkan coastline to remain alert due to the possibility of waterlogging, landslides, and traffic disruptions.
Meanwhile, thanks to consistent rainfall over the past few weeks, Maharashtra’s major dams have reached 93.12% storage capacity, medium projects are at 77.83%, and smaller dams hold 57.18% water reserves. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, water storage levels have reached over 81%, bringing relief to drought-prone areas.
The weather department has confirmed that rainfall activity will remain intense till September 6, after which it is likely to subside gradually.
