MahaRERA Crosses 50,000 Project Registrations In 8 Years, Leading Nationally In Real Estate Regulation
Mumbai, May 8: Eight years after its formation, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has crossed a major milestone by registering over 50,000 real estate projects across the state. According to official data released on Wednesday, MahaRERA remains the only regulatory authority in India to achieve this record, with nearly half of these projects based in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune.
Tamil Nadu ranks second with 27,609 project registrations, followed by Gujarat with 15,322 residential projects. Maharashtra alone accounts for approximately 35% of the country’s total registered housing projects, reflecting the state’s significant real estate activity.
Established in May 2017 under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, MahaRERA was set up to monitor developers and protect homebuyers’ interests. As of now, 50,162 projects are registered under MahaRERA.
District-wise, Pune tops the list with 12,788 projects, followed by Thane (6,746), Mumbai Suburbs (5,907), and Raigad (5,360). The Konkan region, which includes Mumbai, leads with 23,770 projects, while the Pune region has 15,932. Other regions include North Maharashtra (4,621), Nagpur (2,764), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (1,886) and Amravati (957).
MahaRERA also governs two Union Territories—Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli, where over 230 projects have been registered.
Chairman Manoj Saunik hailed this as a significant step for Maharashtra’s development. “The growth of real estate across the state shows our expanding economy and growing housing demand. MahaRERA is committed to ensuring minimal grievances for homebuyers,” he said.
Despite the registrations, only 17,000+ projects have declared completion. Authorities believe the actual number is higher, as many developers fail to update completion status. MahaRERA has received 28,000 complaints, with orders passed in 21,000 cases, and 1,235 resolved through conciliation.
