Pune City Police, in a joint operation with the Southern Command Military Intelligence, arrested a 31-year-old man for running a fake Army recruitment racket. The accused has been identified as Mohit Ramsingh Dhami. The accused was allegedly giving forged appointment letters to aspiring candidates after taking money from them.

According to officials, intelligence inputs from the Southern Command led the Bund Garden police to Dhami, who was targeting job seekers from Maharashtra, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. Dhami approached aspirants from poor financial backgrounds and claimed he had contacts in the Army. He demanded ₹2 lakh from each candidate, promising them jobs.

Officials have recovered forged documents, including identity cards, appointment letters, character certificates, and service certificates. Some fraudsters even had fake tax deduction certificates, bank documents, Army seals, and letterheads.  “Investigation revealed that Dhami provided fake appointment letters with forged letterheads and stamps. We are now probing how many people he has cheated,” a police officer said.

Over the years, several cases of fraudsters posing as Army personnel or claiming insider connections have been uncovered. Many such incidents have been reported in Pune, Nashik, and Ahmednagar. Imposters have been arrested while wearing Army uniforms and deceiving job seekers.

Officials have warned that such cases pose a serious security threat, as these districts house key defense establishments. Police are now working to identify more victims and uncover the full extent of Dhami’s scam. The investigation is ongoing.
