Man booked for extorting Rs.4k from female friend, Threatening to Release Private Videos: Pune Police

Pune: The Sinhagad Road police in Pune recently registered a case against a man from Udgir, Latur district, for allegedly extorting Rs 4,000 from his female friend by threatening to expose her private videos. 

“According to the complainant, the suspect used to force the woman to remove her clothes on video calls and recorded the same without her consent,” an officer from Sinhagad Road police station said.

Additionally, the man is accused of creating a fake profile of the woman on a social media platform and posting objectionable content on it, leading to prolonged harassment over the past two years. 

The victim approached the police on Saturday after the suspect persistently demanded money from her. The suspect faces charges under sections 354-C (Voyeurism), 354-D (Stalking), 384 (Extortion), and 387 (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, to commit extortion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with other relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
