To raise concerns of no water supply for residents in Anandvan Parisar, Mohammadwadi despite paying heavy water supply tax, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Pune protested inside the Water Supply Department office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in the afternoon of 29 December (Friday).

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Rohan Gaikwad, Area President, NIBM – Mohammadwadi, MNS Pune, said “Several water supply tanks have been built & in Anandvan Parisar in Mohammadwadi since 10 years. However, the tanks lack water supply. There are as many as 26 societies in the area which haven’t received water supply from the PMC for several years due to which they are dependent compulsorily on water tankers. All citizens pay heavy property tax & still do not get water supply from the PMC. So, why is the PMC incurring water supply tax if they are not providing the required water supply? Thus, this protest was done inside the office of Nandkishor Jagtap, head of the PMC Water Supply Department.”

As per further information shared by Rohan Gaikwad, some residents of the area, members of Anandvan Parisar Residents’ Forum (APRF), MNS party members etc participated in the protest. Hence, around 50 people were there out of which only 5 to 6 people were allowed inside the office of Nandkishor Jagtap, head of the PMC Water Supply Department. The protest was led by Sainath Babar, Pune city president of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.

As per information from a letter by the MNS party to the PMC regarding the issue, the Anandvan Parisar of Mohammadwadi is densely populated due to the presence of 26 societies. These societies have been deprived of drinking water by the Pune Municipal Corporation for the last several years and no provision has been made for drinking water. Big tanks have been constructed in this area but these tanks have dried up due to no water supply. The citizens here have very little water available which they have got from the water of private tankers.

Most of the citizens of this area are still paying water supply tax still, basic facilities like water are not provided to them. So, the MNS party requested the PMC to take the relevant matter seriously & to take appropriate measures to resolve the problem of no water supply for the citizens.
