Wednesday rain in city have caused waterlogging in low lying areas , caused traffic jams in various areas of the city. The city life was thrown out of gear, as many areas experienced water logging and long queue of vehicles.

Around 30 mm rainfall recorded in and around Pune city .
Few moderately intense to intense spells are happening, as earlier predicted by us, mostly it’s associated with convective cloud(Cb). Moisture incursion due to the available weather systems created a situation that resulted in local instability which caused formation of Cumulonimbus cloud with some intense spells in Pune. With the temperature going up in last few days, even today ,forenoon and with huge amount of moisture availability in the air, thunder/lightning occurred , called as convective rains,
Intense rain spells are also likely to occur in parts of Maharashtra during the next few days.

“Today we upgraded the city rain forecast as one or two intense spells as well as moderate rainfall , (with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in ghat areas only) till 11-12 September. We advised people to avoid visiting Pune Ghat areas during the next few days,” informed Dr Kashyapi, Indian Meteorological Department, Pune.

The weather systems that are likely to bring more rains in parts of Maharashtra till September 11-12 include:

1) The monsoon trough, which now runs south of its normal position & likely to move more southward in coming few days.

2) A cyclonic circulation s present over eastcentral & adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal , Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over west-central Bay of Bengal during less than 24 hours, likely to cause moderate to heavy spells of rain in Maharashtra as it moves closer to the State.

3) Moreover,a cyclonic circulation over interior Karnataka & adjacent areas r also sending moisture especially in southern parts of Maharashtra.

4)Simultaneously, westerlies are slowly getting stronger, bringing more moisture over Konkan -Goa & adjacent ghats of Madhya Maharashtra.
