Mumbai, January 1, 2026: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has reported significant benefits to electricity consumers following the launch of automated approvals for online services. Over the past two months, as many as 58,167 consumers across the state have successfully changed the name on their electricity connections from home, while 10,428 consumers have availed the facility to increase their sanctioned electricity load.
As part of its “Ease of Living” initiative, MSEDCL is expanding digital services to ensure consumers can access key facilities online without visiting offices. Accordingly, the utility has introduced fast-track online processes for change of name on electricity connections and sanctioned load modifications.
Consumers can apply for a name change in cases of property sale, inheritance, or ownership transfer through the MSEDCL mobile app or the official website, www.mahadiscom.in. After logging in, applicants must select the relevant reason, upload the required documents, and pay the processing fee online. The name change is completed within three to seven days.
MSEDCL has also started automated approvals for load enhancement applications up to 157 kW for low-tension industrial, commercial, domestic, and other categories. Beneficiaries have collectively increased their sanctioned load by 69.37 MW. Load increase or reduction requests can be submitted online via the website or mobile app.
Once an online request is submitted, quotations are generated automatically. If no new meter or infrastructure upgrade is required, the enhanced load is approved and activated within 24 hours. Where meter upgrades are needed, installation orders are issued automatically, and the process is typically completed within 48 hours.
Officials said the automated load approval system has especially benefited households under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, as well as industrial and commercial low-tension consumers across the state.
