Mumbai Exit at Panvel on Mumbai-Pune Expressway to Remain Closed for Six Months from February 11

Mumbai Pune Expressway: Missing Link Project to Reduce Distance and Save Time
NAVI MUMBAI: The Mumbai exit at Panvel (1.2 km) on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be completely closed for six months starting February 11 due to construction work at Kalamboli Circle. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is developing a new flyover and underpass as part of the Kalamboli Junction improvement project.
Traffic Diversions and Alternative Routes
The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police has confirmed that this closure will impact all light and heavy vehicles traveling toward Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT. The restriction will remain in effect 24/7 to facilitate smooth construction and minimize congestion.
To manage traffic flow, authorities have designated alternative routes:
- For vehicles heading to Panvel, Goa, and JNPT from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, traffic will be diverted at Konphata (9.6 km) onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle.
- For vehicles traveling from Pune to Mumbai and heading toward Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata, commuters must continue straight from 1.2 km onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, take a right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover, and follow the route via Roadpali and NH-48.
Official Statement and Expected Impact
The restriction order has been issued under the Motor Vehicles Act by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Navi Mumbai, Tirupati Kakade. He stated, “Once the project is completed, the traffic congestion at Kalamboli Circle will be significantly reduced.”
This closure is expected to cause temporary inconvenience for commuters, but the improvement of the Kalamboli Junction aims to enhance long-term traffic management and connectivity in the region. Authorities have urged motorists to follow diversion routes and plan their travel accordingly.
