Construction to bridge the gap between the Coastal Road’s Worli end and the Sea Link in Mumbai has commenced, with the placement of two girders on the southbound arm. The remaining two girders are set to be launched by the end of the month.

Another set of girders on the northbound arm will follow, with a targeted completion date in May, when both arms of the Coastal Road are expected to be open to the public.

The 850-meter bridge will feature bowstring arch girders for structural stabilization, with the southbound arch already assembled and awaiting transport to the site for launching.

The project involves both steel and concrete components, with girders fabricated at different locations and assembled onsite, taking tide levels into consideration. The opening date for the southbound arm remains uncertain, as the initially scheduled inauguration on February 19 was postponed.

Key Points:

– Two girders placed on the southbound arm; two more to be launched by month-end.

– Girders on the northbound arm expected to be placed subsequently, with a targeted May completion for both arms.

– Eight 120-meter girders to bridge the gap, with bowstring arch for structural stability.

– The bridge will be 850 meters long, incorporating steel and concrete components.

– Fabrication of steel girders at JNPT (Raigad) and Ambala, transported for onsite assembly.

– Uncertain opening date for Coastal Road’s southbound arm; previously scheduled for February 19.

Anticipation for the inauguration by the Chief Minister before the Lok Sabha poll code of conduct comes into effect.
