Mumbai: The VB Nagar police in Kurla (West) have registered a case against a 17-year-old boy for abetment of suicide and extortion following the death of a 33-year-old man who allegedly jumped from the fifth floor of a building in October.
According to police reports, the incident took place on October 9 when the control room received information about a person who had jumped from a building in Kurla. After a post-mortem examination, the deceased’s body was handed over to his family. The man was a resident of Vidyavihar.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage and spotted four individuals, including the minor, going toward the building shortly before the incident. All four were summoned for questioning. The minor, however, gave evasive answers, raising police suspicion.
During the inquiry, police found that the teen had allegedly told another person that the deceased was homosexual and paid for sexual favors. He reportedly contacted the man through a dating app and set up a meeting in Kurla. When the deceased arrived and engaged in a sexual act with another person, the minor allegedly brought two associates to the scene and began assaulting both men, accusing them of “immoral activities.” The minor then smashed a beer bottle and threatened to reveal the incident to the deceased’s parents.
The victim pleaded with them to stop, but the threats continued. In a state of panic, he jumped from the fifth-floor window. Following the investigation, the police booked the 17-year-old for abetment of suicide and extortion.
