After receiving a threat call on Saturday from an unidentified individual alerting them to bomb explosions in the city, the Mumbai police tracked down the caller.

Police sources state that at approximately six o’clock on Saturday night, they received a call on their 112 helpline number from a mobile phone number. The caller informed the police that bomb blasts may occur in Mumbai without giving his name, and he promptly disconnected the call.

Information was shared with the senior police officers involved in accordance with standard operating procedures established to handle such threat calls. The caller’s whereabouts was then demanded to be tracked down by the Crime Branch’s Crime Intelligence unit and local police.

According to a police officer, they are still searching for the accused and have not yet filed a case.

The city police has already increased security in advance of the New Year’s festivities.

To guarantee that there are no disruptions to the law during the festivities in the city, over 13,000 Mumbai police officers are patrolling the streets on New Year’s Eve.

There are 2,051 officers and 11,500 police constables on the city’s streets. Major roads and intersections would undergo routine nakabandi and checking, according to an officer.

The officer also stated that 45 assistant commissioners of police and 22 deputy commissioners of police have been assigned to supervise them.
