Mumbai: Security Guard Injured As Stray Dog Bites His Shoulder; CCTV Clip Sparks Concern
The shocking incident in Goregaon West has renewed questions about safety around school premises and rising stray dog aggression.
A school security guard in Mumbai’s Goregaon West was injured on Thursday morning after a stray dog suddenly attacked him inside the school compound. The dramatic CCTV footage of the incident has since gone viral, prompting widespread concern among parents and residents in the area.
The attack took place at around 9.40 am at a school located in Siddharth Nagar, where the guard was seen walking through the gate in his uniform while two stray dogs lingered nearby. The video shows one dog seated close to the entrance while another approaches from the front. Moments later, as the guard turns back toward the gate, the approaching dog suddenly lunges at him, jumps high, and bites onto his left shoulder.
The guard is seen struggling to break free as the dog clings to him for a few seconds before letting go. He manages to push the animal away using his other arm, after which the dog retreats for a moment. A colleague then arrives with a long wooden stick to help assess the situation. Before they can fully react, the same dog runs back and charges at them again. The second attempt is stopped when the staff member holding the stick strikes the dog on the head, forcing it to back off and preventing another bite.
According to eyewitnesses, the guard sustained visible injuries to his shoulder and was taken for immediate medical care. The footage has triggered concern among parents, especially as the attack happened inside an educational institution during morning activity hours.
Residents of the area have claimed that stray dog aggression has been increasing in recent months, with several reports of dogs chasing pedestrians, students, and delivery workers. Parents have raised questions about safety measures around schools, particularly during arrival and dispersal hours when children are most exposed.
Animal welfare groups have also weighed in, noting that such incidents often occur when dogs feel threatened or territorial. They stressed the need for systematic sterilisation drives, vaccination programmes, and responsible feeding practices to reduce conflict. Local civic authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but residents hope the viral video will prompt quicker action to manage stray dog movements in school zones.
The incident highlights the growing friction between human spaces and stray animal populations in densely populated neighbourhoods. With the footage circulating widely, calling for both immediate safety measures and longer-term policy intervention, parents and residents are urging authorities to ensure safer surroundings for students and staff.
No official details have been released regarding follow-up action against the aggressive dog or whether the school has requested additional security steps. The guard, meanwhile, is recovering as authorities and locals review what can be done to prevent similar attacks in the future.
