Fines to increase up to tenfold for violations as government tightens road safety norms

Starting September 1, two-wheeler riders across the country will face stricter traffic regulations and significantly higher penalties for violations. Both the central and state governments have introduced these changes with the aim of reducing road accidents and instilling greater discipline among motorists.

Under the revised norms, fines for breaking rules such as riding without a helmet, overspeeding, triple-riding, and signal violations are expected to rise by nearly ten times compared to existing penalties. Officials believe that stricter enforcement, along with steeper fines, will act as a strong deterrent against reckless driving.

According to the new guidelines, repeat offenders may face suspension of their driving license. Traffic officials have confirmed that stricter monitoring will be put in place, and enforcement will cover not only urban roads but also highways and rural areas.

Additional Provisions (as per new rules):

Riders violating traffic rules may face license cancellation.

Repeat offenders could see their license suspended for three months.

A penalty of ₹25,000 can be imposed either on the vehicle driver or on parents of underage riders caught breaking the law.

These new measures underline the government’s intent to curb rash driving, ensure helmet compliance, and discourage underage driving. Authorities have urged citizens to strictly follow the rules to avoid heavy financial penalties and safeguard lives.

Authorities have also indicated that awareness drives will be launched to inform citizens about the new rules before strict enforcement begins. With road accident fatalities continuing to be a major concern, especially involving two-wheelers, the government is emphasizing responsible riding and adherence to traffic laws.

Motorists are advised to stay updated on the revised penalties in their respective states, as certain fines may vary depending on local traffic enforcement guidelines.
