Make a Reel on Ganeshotsav and Win ₹1 Lakh — A Unique Contest by the Maharashtra Government
If you’re someone who loves making reels, here’s something you might want to check out. The Maharashtra Government has announced a reel-making competition that comes with cash prizes up to ₹1 lakh. This contest has been launched under the initiative of Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar and is being organized by the Department of Cultural Affairs along with the Maharashtra Film, Theatre, and Cultural Development Corporation. The aim is to take the celebration of Ganeshotsav beyond the usual and give it a creative twist through short videos made by people across the country — and even outside India.
The process is simple. Anyone who wants to participate can register online and upload their reels between August 27 and September 7. The competition is open to people from different regions and is divided into three categories — one for people living in specific revenue divisions within Maharashtra, one for the state level, and one open category for participants from outside Maharashtra and from abroad.
As for what your reel should be about, there are a few themes you can choose from. It could focus on something like environmental conservation, swadeshi or local pride, forts and fortresses, cultural aspects, or the Operation Sindoor campaign. Your reel should be anywhere between 30 to 60 seconds long.
To keep things fair, the competition is split into these three categories:
Revenue Division Level (within Maharashtra)
State Level (entire Maharashtra)
Open Category (for those outside Maharashtra and outside India)
Each category has its own set of prizes. Here’s a quick look:
Revenue Division Level Prizes
- First Prize: ₹25,000
- Second Prize: ₹15,000
- Third Prize: ₹10,000
- Consolation Prize: ₹5,000
State Level Prizes

- Second Prize: ₹75,000
- Third Prize: ₹50,000

Registration is being done through a Google Form which you’ll find on the official website filmcitymumbai.org, and also on the official social media pages of Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari.
So, if you’ve got a good idea, a phone with a camera, and a bit of editing creativity, this is something you might want to try. It’s a great chance to celebrate something meaningful and possibly win a solid cash prize while doing it.
