Nigdi Water Crisis: Pipeline Bursts Due to Metro Work, Thousands of Litres Wasted, Residents Angry

Pimpri-Chinchwad: Yet another major water pipeline burst occurred during ongoing metro construction work between Nigdi and Pimpri, leading to the wastage of thousands of litres of water. The incident took place around 6 pm on Tuesday (May 19) near the Bhakti Shakti flyover, on the stretch between Shrikrishna Temple and Nigdi Gaothan, while a Portland machine was digging in the area.
The pipeline burst caused extensive waterlogging on the road, disrupting traffic and drawing strong reactions from residents. With the city already facing water shortages in the summer, repeated incidents like this have left citizens angry and frustrated.
Similar water wastage incidents have happened in the past in this area due to metro work damaging pipelines. Locals allege that the recurring damage is due to the negligence of the contractor, yet no strict action has been taken so far.
Repeated pipeline bursts in the Nigdi area over recent months have put a significant strain on the municipal water supply system. The civic administration is already struggling to maintain adequate water supply amid ongoing scarcity.
In response to this latest incident, BJP city secretary Sachin Kalbhor has demanded that Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh take immediate note and file criminal charges against the officials responsible for the metro project.
Locals believe that the lack of coordination between the Metro project authorities and the municipal administration is a key reason behind these repeated problems.
