Pune- A parcel scanner valued at Rs 25 lakh has been installed at Pune Junction to check and monitor parcels. With this, Pune railway station has become the first in the country to have a specific machine for scanning parcels.

It will help to detect the parcel content as part of the security measures and streamlining of parcel processing work. The scanners will prove to be effective in detecting the transport of banned material.

As many as 65 trains pass through Pune railway station daily with a ridership of around 1.25 lakh passengers. Owing to this, the Pune railway station makes a revenue earning of around Rs 27 crores through parcel service alone. Last year, as reported by Pune Pulse, the Pune railway division secured two parcel scanners in the NFR (Non-Fare Revenue) to scan all outgoing parcels by awarding a contract through e-auction.
