Pune- The Pune district collector conducted the hearing of 63 owners of rooftop bars and pubs on Wednesday that were shut temporarily for violation of rules like serving alcohol to minors and not abiding by the time limit.

According to the district collector, Dr. Suhas Diwase, some of the bar owners have been ordered to complete the compliance process and submit related documents. A final decision on each case will be taken on the basis of merit and a certain time cannot be specified. The State Excise Department has taken action against more than 300 hotels, bars, pubs, and permit rooms for rule violation.

This action is being taken after the Kalyani Nagar accident which happened on May 19. A drunk minor crashed his Porsche into a two-wheeler, killing two IT professionals, Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, on the spot. Due to this, the nightlife of Pune has been severely affected as the Excise Department has started taking strict action against bars and pubs that violate rules. Some bars have also been permanently shut in the process.
