Due to a technical issue at the Bhama Askhed pumping and jackwell unit, residents of several east Pune neighborhoods were placed in a difficult situation when the water was abruptly shut off for nearly two days on Thursday, December 14 and Wednesday December 13.

On Wednesday afternoon, PMC officials stated that a malfunction in the power supply cable at the pumping unit was the cause of the water supply interruption.

According to a PMC representative, the repairs got underway right away. However, technical difficulties meant that the work continued until midnight. On Thursday morning, the water pumping was started again.

However, local leaders from the Nagar Road area claimed that by Thursday evening, the water supply at maximum pressure had only been provided to the people living in Wadgaon Sheri, Chandannagar, Vimannagar, and some areas of Lohegaon and Dhanori.

An ex-corporator from the Nagar Road area claimed that he began receiving complaints from locals about the water supply on Wednesday night. The PMC officials provided an update on the impact of a power outage on the water supply. Thursday morning saw the restoration of the supply. However, water at optimal pressure was only available in certain east Pune areas by late afternoon.

An underground power cable has been laid at the Karanje Vihir unit, according to a PMC official. The fault took a long time to find. After working for over six hours, the project was finished about midnight. After the repairs, the water pumping was operational again.

For the past three years, the Bhama Askhed dam has provided water to the eastern regions of the city through the PMC.

According to a Wadgaon Sheri resident, residents have been suffering as a result of unexpected water closures brought on by technical issues. In order to protect the residents from hardships, they want the civic authorities to perform routine inspections and maintenance.

The PMC water supply department officials stated that they were investigating the causes of the power outage. The first priority was to restore the water and power supplies. Their teams are investigating the cause of the power outage. The results will guide the implementation of corrective actions.
