After residents voiced concerns about the supply disruption, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) decided to halt its campaign to cut off housing societies’ water connections over non-functional STPs.

Regarding non-operational sewage treatment plants (STPs), the civic body had warned forty-one societies and threatened to take action starting on December 11.

At the time of handover, a number of housing societies had complained that the builders had not given them working STPs.

According to a residential society’s chairperson, PCMC representatives had arrived to turn off the water supply. They told them that the damaged panel of the STP plant prevents it from operating. They requested that the societies must be given some time by the municipal officials to get the STP operational while MSEDCL personnel work on fixing it. Only two of the four wings in the project had STP provided by the builder. It did, however, still receive the PCMC completion certificate.

Out of the 335 residential complexes under PCMC jurisdiction, up to 80 housing societies possessed non-functional STPs. Many of these societies were compelled to activate their STPs after receiving PCMC’s initial notice earlier this year. Only 41 societies are listed as defaulters as of right now.

Only five of the 41 societies have reported that the project builder provided them with non-functional STPs, according to a senior PCMC official. As a result, they have stopped taking action against these five societies and are sending notices to the relevant builders until they hear back from both the builders and the residents. Several of these societies have asked for more time. They have made the decision to halt the action for a period of eight to ten days. When the extended period expires, they will take action.
