PCMC hires transgenders as security guards and green marshals

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has hired transgenders as security guards. The move taken by the civic body has been welcomed by many. The civic body has launched a single window system to resolve the various issues faced by the transgenders.

These transgenders have been hired on contract basis.

Under this initiative, PCMC is making efforts to provide employment opportunities to this community. The corporation offered the Transgender community to fulfill responsibilities as security guards and green marshals with PCMC. This initiative shall be run on pilot basis and the Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Rajesh Patil, expressed confidence that the movement would be exemplary and shall be widely replicated if the Transgender community make the pilot successful.

Accordingly, Transgender community have been appointed on contract basis as security guards and green marshals for private municipal services. The letter of appointment has been handed over to the transgender community by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Rajesh Patil. 
On this occasion, a program was organized in the administrative building of the Municipal Corporation. Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne and Jitendra Wagh along with Health Medical Officer Dr. Anil Roy, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Kiran Ghodke, Executive Engineer Pramod Ombhase, Chief Safety Officer Major Uday Jarande, Disaster Management Officer Omprakash Bahiwal, Social Development Officer Suhas Bahadurpure, Public Relations Officer Kiran Gaikwad, Health Inspector in charge Umesh Jadhav, Deputy Inspector of Police Balasaheb Adhari, Green Marshal and third party personnel Anushka Jadhav, Nayana Kotgir, Zoya Shirole, Tushar Wadile, Atish Tupe and Vaishali Marathe, Mihika Verma, Prashant Adakne, Rupa Taksal, Saaj Prasad Singh, Nikita Mukhyadal, Pooja Pawar, Sanju Kathe, Pramit Pawar, Shaina Roy, Sachin Deshpande were present.

While interacting with the Transgender community present on the occasion, Commissioner Rajesh Patil said that the Transgender community have taken a bold step by accepting the job offered by the Municipal Corporation to be a part of the mainstream operations. There are many challenges in bringing a neglected society into the mainstream operations. It is very important that Transgender community accept this challenge to live a self-reliant life.

Today is marked as a memorable day for all and the success story of the Transgender community recruits in the Green Marshal and Security Squad will be inspiring. The positive change in their lives and the successful journey they have made will be exemplary for others. 

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation wants to make this pilot project successful. This initiative will lead to a lot of positive things in the future. This is a big decision, and it is also an important movement. The corporation’s image in a citizen’s mind should be justified by doing good deeds that people should write and speak about. The work will create a different identity in the society and will create a new ideal in front of the society, said Commissioner Rajesh Patil. Commissioner Rajesh Patil also wished the newly appointed Transgender community for a successful career. The Transgender community who got the opportunity to work in the security guards and green marshal squads of the corporation expressed their sentiments with emotion. 

“We have always wanted to live a life of self-respect rather than a life of humiliation and contempt,” said Nikita Mukhyadal, a newly appointed security guard. We were rejected by society but the corporation supported us and believed in us. This helping hand helped us to survive. This is an honor bestowed on us by the Municipal Corporation and we will remain committed to fulfilling the trust placed in us.

Prem Lotlikar, who was appointed to the Green Marshall squad, explained the problems and difficulties of Transmen. Transman’s certificate is not easily obtained, he said. Many establishments do not even offer jobs. You can’t even beg. Such is the situation. So many difficulties have to be faced. In such a situation, the corporation understood our plight and gave us the opportunity to work in the corporation’s green marshal squad. We will never forget the hand of honor given by the Municipal Corporation. 

Security guard Rupa Taksal said, “We thought we would not be able to live well after we left home. We were living with the feeling that we would have to endure humiliation for the rest of our lives. A life of dignity was a dream for us. This dream has come true, and we are grateful for this honor”.
